As mentioned on my home page, I consider myself to be a “Movement Enthusiast”. I coined this term (at least I think I did) as a way to encompass my deep passion for moving my body in a variety of ways.
I've always been an active human being. From the time I was about 2 years old, my parents knew they needed to get me signed up for some form of athletic activity. At the time, the most common things to put a toddler daughter in were dance, soccer, and skiing. As soon as I was old enough (4 years old), my parents signed me up for ballet classes, U4 soccer, and ski lessons. Thus, the beginning of a recurring theme of variety in sports and activities that I have carried with me throughout my life.
To this day, I have fitness ADHD - meaning I love to try different modes of movement and I often go through various “seasons” where I lean more heavily towards some. While this may seem stressful to some people, I consider it to be a blessing in this industry…and for my business!
I believe my love for all types of exercise and activity can help me help others in a big way. Not only can I talk the talk, but I walk the walk.
I also have had my fair share of “variety” with nutrition and my relationship with food. That is a part of my history I am definitely not proud of…
Since I was a junior in high school, I have had a complicated dieting history. Eating disorders, googling Victoria's Secret model diets, 30 day challenges, low carb, low fat, no sugar…I've tried a lot of things.
Spoiler alert: None of them worked. All of them made me miserable, unhealthy, and even more frustrated with myself.
But through a lot of practice, patience, and prayer, I have come to know what it's like to have a healthy relationship with food.
For me, that looks like nourishing my body with *mostly* whole, unprocessed foods, but never putting anything on the “Naughty” list. What I've found is that the less I restrict myself, the less the restricted foods consume my thoughts. I truly believe that food freedom looks different for everyone, and what has worked for me may not work for you.
I believe my background with nutrition and all the obstacles that I've overcome give me a unique perspective to help a variety of people. At this time I practice “mindful eating” but I have used macro/calorie tracking on and off for years. In fact, tracking macros helped me to restore my calories to a sustainable level while minimizing fat gain. I offer either of these approaches with my nutrition clients. Both have their pros and cons, and both have the potential to bring you success.
In my own life, I practice what I preach. And I preach that there is no such thing as the “balanced life” we have been sold on social media. There are seasons of life where we need to put the pedal to the medal in order to achieve our personal goals while keeping up with the demands of life…but just as important are the seasons of life where we need to put the brakes on and enjoy some slower moments.
